Bristol Elephant Adventure

Free, interactive pushchair trail across Bristol, from Saturday 22 October 2022 onwards  – pop into any participating venue, pick up a map, and follow the story of the Elephant as he walks around Bristol looking for his friend, Mr Giraffe. Stop off at St George’s Box Office, and any of the other participating venues, to collect a special stamp. Why not visit our play space at the same time? And don’t miss our Animal Adventure Day on Wednesday 26 October!

All venues are pushchair friendly. Other participating venues: Royal West of England Academy (RWA), Bristol Old Vic, Brunel’s SS Great Britain, and MShed.

If you’ve never picked up an instrument before or you’re dreaming of becoming a musician, we invite you to come along and get involved with music making at St George’s. From our regular family events like MiniBeats and Wild Words, to performance opportunities and bursaries, we think that our programme will have something to spark your imagination.

Beyond the open doors of St George’s, we also work with schools, artists and other arts organisations to create projects for young people across the city.

With our friends at Bristol Beacon we deliver ‘Sounds Inspiring’, a celebration of everything about young people’s music-making: their energy, talent, and imagination, as well as the unique power of music written for young musicians.

We run the Cosmos Children’s Community Choir, a long-term singing project for children in schools in South Bristol. Discover some of our free online ‘Sing from Home’ videos below.

We also run a Somali Youth Project where young people of Somali heritage can explore their cultural heritage through drama, dance and music, and we’re looking forward to partnering with Bristol Old Vic on an expanded version of this project in 2022.

We partner Preludes, the education arm of the Bristol Ensemble; Preludes works in areas of Bristol that are experiencing high levels of economic disadvantage and aims to put music at the heart of every child’s education – we support them by taking some of our visiting artists into ‘Preludes schools’ whenever we can, and also by bringing children into the venue for specially created events. We’re currently planning a South Bristol Festival day together, for July 2022 (watch this space!)

We run the Tom Eveson Bursary Fund, which offers an annual £1,000 bursary to a lucky young musician in our region, maybe to buy a new instrument, or to put towards music lessons.

We offer creative development projects for young instrumentalists, singers and composers, and we encourage students to come to St George’s through a special ticketing scheme including free tickets to selected events.

We are a Children’s University Learning Destination, an Arts Award venue, and we are signed up to Family Arts Standards.

MiniBeats Brilliant Brass was nothing short of fantastic!!! My son and his friends loved every minute of it and came out bouncing up and down shouting ‘that was AWESOME’!!! It has also inspired us to encourage our son to take up an instrument ! We would love to come to more of these and we thought it was especially great that there was a good mix of families with children who have special educational needs and families who don’t all enjoying it together. Hurrah!
